Three Stone Engagement Rings

Three stones, usually read as past, present and future. It is the most symbolic of the classic engagement styles and one of the most flattering, because the side stones extend the ring visually along the finger.

How the three stones relate

The side stones are typically between a quarter and a half of the centre stone's weight. Larger side stones create a more balanced trilogy look, smaller ones keep the emphasis on the centre. Side stones can match the centre shape or contrast with it, for example tapered baguettes or trapezoids beside a round or cushion centre.

Choosing your stones

Because there are three visible stones, colour matching matters more here than in a solitaire. Stones that differ by more than a grade or two will show a difference in person even if they look identical on paper. We match stones for three stone rings before setting rather than after.
