You can take your value two ways.

A buyer offering you cash for gold in this state is telling you something about how they operate. The rule exists to make precious metal transactions traceable, and dealers who ignore it are ignoring the rest of it too.

Gold jewelry

Any karat, worn or broken, including single earrings and snapped chains. Condition barely matters for scrap value: a tangled broken chain and a perfect one of the same weight and karat are worth the same gold.

Natural diamonds

Loose or set, certified or not. A GIA or comparable certificate raises the value, but its absence does not disqualify a stone.

Designer jewelry

Branded pieces often carry value well beyond their metal and stones. This is where condition matters a great deal.

Fine watches

We buy Rolex, Cartier, Breitling and other luxury brands. Valued as timepieces first and metal second, on age, model and condition. Original box and papers make a real difference to the figure.

Estate and inherited jewelry

Including pieces worth considerably more intact than melted. We will tell you when that is the case rather than quietly buying it as scrap.

Sterling silverware

Flatware, candle holders and other silver housewares. Value depends on style, pattern, silver content and condition, and a complete patterned set is usually worth more than its weight.

Coins and collectibles

Bring the collection in and we will go through it. Coins with numismatic value are paid above scrap, which is the whole point of having someone look rather than weighing the lot.

Silver and platinum

Alongside your gold, in the same evaluation.

We buy natural diamonds only. We do not purchase or take lab grown diamonds in trade. Lab grown stones have no established resale market, and a buyer who quotes you a trade value on one is quoting a number they cannot support.

Where an estate has multiple beneficiaries, we can arrange separate payment checks for each of them. That is usually the part that turns an awkward family conversation into a straightforward one, and it is worth saying up front that we can do it.

A natural diamond bought at Diamond Designs can be traded back at one hundred percent of what you paid for it, applied toward a larger natural stone. Not a depreciated figure. The full original purchase price.

It is how a first engagement ring becomes an anniversary ring years later without starting over, and it is a real argument for buying the stone from a jeweler who will still be here in ten years.

• Metal. Weight multiplied by purity, priced against the live precious metal market, which moves every day.
• Diamonds. Carat, cut, color and clarity, plus whether the stone carries a certificate.
• Brand. A designer piece with demand behind it is worth more than the sum of its materials.
• Condition and completeness. Original box, papers and certificates raise value on watches and branded pieces.
• Resale demand. What the piece can realistically sell for in this market, today, not what it cost new.

That last point is the one worth being honest about. A ring that cost eight thousand dollars new is not eight thousand dollars of inventory the day after it is worn. Any buyer who tells you otherwise is building the difference into something else.

Connecticut requires licensed precious metals dealers to record proof of identity for every seller, including a photograph and an identifying number, and to keep a record of each transaction.

Bring a valid photo ID. We also cannot purchase from anyone under eighteen unless a parent or guardian is present. A buyer who skips these steps is not being convenient, they are operating outside the law.

Mail in gold buyers and pop up hotel events are built on speed and distance. You send jewelry away, you are told what it was worth after they already have it, and there is no counter to go back to.
