Solitaire Engagement Rings

A single diamond, nothing competing with it. The solitaire is the most requested engagement ring style and has been for a century, because it puts all of the attention and all of the budget on one stone.

Why a solitaire

With no side stones, the centre diamond carries the entire ring, which makes cut quality the deciding factor. A well cut stone in a plain setting will out perform a larger poorly cut stone every time. Solitaires also age well: they never look like a particular decade, and they pair cleanly with any wedding band later.

Setting choices

Four prongs let more light into the stone and show more of its outline. Six prongs hold more securely and make a round stone read slightly rounder. A bezel wraps the girdle in metal and is the most protective option for hands on work. Knife edge, cathedral and plain band shanks each change the profile without touching the stone.
