Metal and finish
Platinum is the most durable and develops a soft patina rather than losing metal. 14K gold offers the best balance of hardness and cost. 18K gold has a richer colour but is softer. Finish changes the character as much as metal does: high polish is classic, satin and brushed finishes hide daily marks, and hammered finishes disguise wear best of all.
Comfort fit
A comfort fit band has a rounded interior that reduces contact with the finger and slides over the knuckle more easily. It uses more metal, so it costs slightly more, and it usually feels a half size larger than a standard fit band. For a ring worn continuously, most people find it worth it.
