Which chain style
Rope and franco chains are the most durable for daily wear and for carrying a pendant. Herringbone and snake chains give the smoothest, most liquid look but are the least forgiving if they kink. Cable and box chains are the most neutral and the easiest to pair with any pendant. Curb and figaro read heavier and work well worn alone.
Weight and durability
Chain thickness matters more than length for longevity. Hollow chains give more visual size for the weight of gold but dent more easily, while solid chains cost more and last longer. If a chain will carry a pendant, size the chain to the pendant rather than the other way around.
