Halo Engagement Rings
A halo surrounds the center diamond with a ring of smaller stones. The effect is that the center looks meaningfully larger and the whole ring catches more light, which is why halos have stayed popular for well over a century.
What a halo does for the center stone
A halo can make a center diamond appear up to half a carat larger than it is, so it is the most direct way to maximize visual size within a budget. It also protects the girdle of the center stone, and lets a slightly lower color center read whiter against the surrounding stones.
Halo variations
A classic halo sits flush around the center. A double halo adds a second row for more presence. A hidden or under halo places stones beneath the center where they are visible only from the side, which is a subtler option. Halo shape can follow the center stone or contrast with it, for example a cushion halo around a round center.
